Lemon

Lemon

Lemon (Citrus limon) is a type of citrus fruit that contains high levels of citric acid. The fruit, juice, and peel are used to make medicine. Lemon contains antioxidants called bioflavonoids. These bioflavonoids might be responsible for the health benefits of lemon.

Lemons are a good source of vitamin C. One lemon provides about 31 mg of vitamin C, which is 51% of the reference daily intake (RDI). Research shows that eating fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C reduces your risk of heart disease and stroke.

Lemon juice is a characteristic ingredient in many pastries and desserts, such as tarts and the traditional American lemon meringue pie.
