Sweet corn

Sweet corn

Sweet corn (Zea mays convar. saccharata var. rugosa), also called sugar corn and pole corn, is a variety of corn grown for human consumption with a high sugar content. Native to the Americas, sweet corn has been cultivated for thousands of years; it’s famous as one of the Three Sisters —corn, beans, and squash—grown by Native Americans. Sweet corn is a tender, warm-season annual crop that produces ears of yellow, white, or bi-colored kernels. It grows best at temperatures between 60 and 80 °F. Sweet corn does not germinate well in cold soil; therefore, do not plant before the soil temperature at the 4-inch depth is at least 50 ºF.
